A Quiet Reverence Of Snow…

A quiet reverence of snow falls softly on the land…as life holds its breath.

 DSC06118

There is something about snow falling out here in the middle of nowhere that brings a silence of holiness…as time seems to stands still.

DSC06037

Silence fills your heart with purity as the small white flakes fall quietly around you.

What

The silence brings sad memories too of loosing my sweet kitty girl, Minnie Mouse a year ago yesterday…

DSC06069

While I know she is safe and someday I will see her again,

DSC01435

I miss her presence and her sweet spirit…

SONY DSC

Her beautiful green eyes and her kind kitty girl heart.

DSC06118

Tonight as I write it is super cold, with icy roads and fog that drifts in and out of our canyon.

Old memories come back each holiday season as I miss the loss of relationship with family and miss those who are no longer with us. I miss the old days…and the old ways.

DSC00814

I hope that you all have a wonderful turkey day tomorrow, with lots of good stuff…new memories, good food and always lots of laughter. The second turkey we cooked on our Traeger….oh my, it is darn good! Whoo-Hoo and so easy too! If you don’t have a Traeger yet, get one as they are worth it!!! Everything you cook on them is absolutely delicious!!!

“Fall” Fell Fast Upon Juniper Canyon!

“Fall” fell fast upon Juniper Canyon…

DSC04958

We went from a HOT 100 degrees a week ago to a low of 38 degrees last night…our weather has been weird and crazy the last few years…and this was a blessed but crazy weather event!

DSC04938

A half-inch of rain fell overnight…and a half-inch of rain is a glorious blessing!

DSC04820

Ellie and I did the happy dance…

DSC04578

Of course the wind blew all day…causing some dust to blow…

DSC04981

But…we got rain! It was incredibly peaceful hearing it on the roof last night lulling us to sleep…and waking up today seeing rain puddles outside:)

DSC05304

Yep we are care takers of the land and we love seeing it watered with heaven’s glory and grace…

DSC03650

And the fires in Oregon had a mix of God’s grace with snow and rain but mostly snow…it helped huge:)

DSC04959

Fall is in the air and Melody is smiling! Click on the picture and you will see her smiles:)

DSC04982

I hope for more fall rains to come…with raindrops falling on my head:)

_MG_6985

May you be blessed this week…with glorious rains and glorious life…and lots of smiles:)

Fire In The Skies!

Fire in the skies…smoke in my eyes here in Juniper Canyon as

SONY DSC

Wildfires are burning thousands of acres in the Blue Mountains, making the last week  intense and incredibly scary…

DSC03935

A week ago we had the perfect storm conditions in the Blues…after three years of drought, we had lots of dry fuel waiting for that perfect strike of lightning and we had a dry lightning storm hit the Blues last Thursday night into Friday with intense winds that fueled the fires…while last Friday…

DSC04578

We had an epic dust storm here all day with winds over 50 mph…

DSC04573

And those same winds blew into the mountain fires fueling them with run away flames…residents of Canyon City lost 39 homes to the fire over the weekend due to the winds causing the fires to triple in size. In Oregon alone as of this morning, 300,000 acres have burned with 12 wildfires yet burning.

DSC03407

The weather forecast for Thursday and Friday this week is calling for more wind…I pray the winds stay down here and not hammer the mountains again. We live several miles from the actual fires but we know the mountain country well…I grew up in those mountains on the family cattle ranch…and we love our mountains.

DSC03287

My heart is heavy for the residents who lost their homes in Canyon City and for all the people evacuated from their homes as the fires rage on…my prayers are also with the men and women who are fighting these fires, their job is not easy and I pray that God will protect each one of them.

DSC02920

Our local paper this morning ran a large article on the fires, I have grabbed bits and pieces of it below for you.

The Pacific Northwest is one of three regions nationwide under a wildfire Preparedness Level 5, which means there are more than 14 un-contained large fires exhausting local agencies, northern California and the northern Rocky Mountains are also at Preparedness Level 5, while the Great Basin region — made up of portions of southern Idaho, Nevada, Utah and northern Arizona — is at Level 4.

All together, there are approximately 95 large wildfires burning 1.1 million acres of land in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, California, Nevada and Colorado. The situation is so dire that, for the first time since 2006, the Department of Defense has agreed to send 200 active duty personnel to assist firefighters.

In Oregon alone, there are 12 un-contained large fires burning nearly 300,000 acres, according to the Northwest Inter-agency Coordination Center in Portland. The majority of acres on fire — more than 225,000 — are also on fires that are less than 30 percent contained, which means they have a long way to go.

Jim Whittington, spokesman with the state Bureau of Land Management and regional Forest Service fire staff, said crews prepared well in advance for a difficult fire season based on a third consecutive year of drought and record-low snow pack last winter.

What’s made this year unusual, he said, is the intensity of the season in such a short period of time, with the region hammered by a perfect storm of lightning and wind over the past two weeks.

“There’s an intensity here that probably has not been matched in a number of years, or ever,” Whittington said.

DSC04627

Currently, we are under an air quality alert due to the heavy smoke in the air…out here it is not as bad as Pendleton which lays at the base of the Blue Mountains…however the smoke was noted here all day as once you step outside your eyes burn and you can smell it.

SONY DSC

We are heavy in heart and prayerful that God will intervene in this massive fire event…the western states seem to be burning up with terrible fires. We need rain without wind…

DSC03739

May you be blessed where ever you live…and if you are close to any of the fires, I’m praying for your protection and that the fires will soon be over!

DSC07315

HRCG…Ellie and Melody are over and out for now…but never for long:)

The Views Of Life Off My Patio……

The views of life off my patio,

DSC01967

Are ever changing year round…and never boring!

DSC05182

“Hello Houston, we have a problem!!!”

DSC03098

Memorial Day weekend…the fields were green and beautiful!

DSC03103

Ten days later, we were cooking on a 108 degree afternoon…the wheat turned golden in a few days, looks like harvest on June 8th…and whoa!

SONY DSC

Normally you would see the wheat turn slowly through the month of June…with harvest beginning sometime in July.

DSC03143

I have never seen the wheat head out in mid May or my flowers bloom in early March…nor did I have to mow the yard for the first time the beginning of March!

DSC03108

Crazy if you ask me…is it global warming or a season of drought?

DSC03019

In the local paper today, and I quote “Wheat yields are projected to take such a hit this summer that some Eastern Oregon growers may not even harvest their crop. Sparse rainfall and diminished snow pack have impacted producers all across the West, but an unseasonable heat wave in late May and early June hit developing wheat plants at exactly the wrong time. The heat wave came as wheat plants were in the stage of filing out their grain kernels. Foreign countries, Japan and Korea, that buy the soft white wheat from the Pacific Northwest will not want what we offer this year….as the protein levels will be too high for what they require to bake their breads, crackers and etc.”

DSC03258

It has been an odd year…from the crazy weather to the incredible love of my animals! I love my girl above…Melody is the melody of my heart:)

What

Oh my Minnie Girl…I miss you so…sometimes I think I see you out of the corner of my eye…and when I am sitting on the sofa, I’m sure you are on the back of the sofa, where you observed the world and me…I miss your sweetness and those big green eyes, always filled with mischievous love…this time of year was your favorite time.

DSC07196

How you loved the smells, the sounds of crickets and the sounds of birds tweeting to you all day long! Its ok sweet kitty girl, someday I will see you again and we will snuggle with lots of nose kisses, head bumps, tummy rubs and lots of purring….my sweet Min Mouse…my forever kitty girl.

DSC03009

And then there is Ellie, she loves me…she loves when I brush her each day from top to bottom, she loves the sense of being rubbed…I think it is due to a sense of being licked by her mama…and I am her mama…it brings us both comfort.

DSC02736

She is incredibly smart and intuitive…a very protective girl. She is a blessing from God and my Minnie, in her beautiful Australian fur.

DSC03330

Droughts, life lived and life lost, being loved and the pain that comes from loving too much…I would rather have the pain from loving too much as to me that is a life well lived. We love naturally and we live courageously….loving our loved ones and the life we have…is a very simple life.

SONY DSC

HRCG over and out for now…but never for long:)

Have a simply wonderful week wherever you are!

Country Girl Views Of Spring Time Renewal

Country girl views of spring time renewal, often begins…

DSC01998

With the view out your windows of intense blue skies and vivid green fields.

And Ellie Belle on point as she can hear voles or field mice in the pasture…

DSC02002

Rain showers move in quickly as on cue to sprinkle the crops and the land…

DSC02021

As Melody runs for cover!

I love seeing all that looked dead a few months ago, come back alive with a new season of hope…the farmers are out in the fields again and I am out and about doing spring time clean up…it feels good to breathe deeply the smell of Spring, while working up a sweat with the warmth of the sun on my back.

DSC02004

And as the day draws to a close…

DSC02086

With beautiful skies and colors all around…

The First Breathe Of Spring

The first breath of Spring is elusive here in Juniper and yet, can it be?

DSC06196

Is it Spring? I felt her brush my cheek tonight as I stood outside taking pictures without a coat or shoes…I saw magic time colors…grabbed my camera and out the door I went…lucky we have a nice patio that accommodates feet with or without socks!

DSC06133

When we went to bed Saturday night, the snow was beginning to drift and blow…

DSC06143

And when we woke up Sunday morning,

DSC06123

We had drifts blocking various roads and doors…and fun photography shots!

DSC06100

However, some of us were getting a bit perturbed…ok darn right cranky!

DSC06099

Bitchy, Grumpy and Sweet Melody…aw my Mel, you are so sweet!

DSC06178

By the time we went to bed Sunday night…the great thaw had begun!

DSC03422

Spring is coming…hang on…tell Groundhog Phil he needs a new gig!

DSC06074

Over and out from HRCG and Minnie, the cat who knows where it’s at!

God Of Wonder…God Of Light…God’s World Is My Delight!

God of wonder…God of light…God’s world is my delight.

SONY DSC

I love capturing weather shots…and the last few years we have had interesting weird weather to photograph!

SONY DSC

Last night as I looked up to the heavens, I saw a million stars above my head with no end in sight…it takes my breath away, no matter how many times I have looked up. I wish I could have captured what I saw with my camera…instead I captured this moon shot a few months ago and I thought you would enjoy it. I love the power lines as they frame the moon…giving Mr. Harvest Moon an interesting look.

SONY DSC

We have a few more inches of snow today and now we are under a Winter Storm Alert for more snow with below zero temperatures. It is seriously cold out…it is 17 degrees this afternoon with a minus 2 due to windchill.

DSC02099

Mr. Buck says “Where are my Apple Asses…and I need more hay too”…hang on Buckaroo…here it comes…just for you!

DSC01977

Winter is finally making her appearance and she’s on a roll…hang on!!!!!

Yee-Haw! Blah Blah Days!

Yee-Haw! Blah blah days of gray have descended once again on us in Juniper Canyon.

DSC01936

Almost every winter we have a couple of weeks of blahsay gray skies with fog that drifts in and drifts out.

DSC05662

“Oh Mr. Sun where are you…Hello Blue Sky? Where have the two of you gone?” I bet they hooked up and went to Hawaii…I don’t blame them but “Hey…come back puhlease!”

DSC06004

And with dingy gray skies devoid of character or shadows, what do you take pictures of?

DSC05882

Maybe God made foggy gray days for us to know that we will go through gray times in life but blue skies are coming…hang on and trust…as the gray will disappear!

DSC05947

And then…the sun shines for a few hours…Halleluaia! I LOVE seeing blue instead of gray!

DSC05962

WB heard me whimpering about no blue skies, so he gave me something to do that I enjoy:)

DSC05991

WB restores customer vehicles and he just finished this 1949 Chevrolet one ton pick up…the customer’s father purchased the pick up in 1949. Note: It is very rare as it is a one ton!

DSC05984

A photo shoot was just what I needed, as on gray days, photos pop and photo shoots are awesome as the camera captures the shadows, the depth, the funky fun shots, with no glare, and no fade out of color etc.

DSC05652

We need rain in the Pacific Northwest…we need it bad. We are way below what is the normal crop year moisture…the mountains do not have their usual snow pack and next summer will be very dry…I’m praying for good rains, nice gentle rains and some occasional snow here with a good snow pack in the mountains!

DSC04918

Summer is coming sooner than we think with beautiful skies and flowers galore that are pretty in pink…hopefully with gentle spring rains and epic summer storms! Hang on tight as soon it will be a warm summer night full of country delight!

The Incredible Ever Changing View Of Life…

The incredible ever changing view of life outside my window is truly amazing…as each season brings unique gifts of the season to us, giving us the gift of seasonal colors in the skies of glory above us and all around us with the beautiful colors displayed on the landscape…and as I gaze at God’s incredible world, I know but I know that God is here:)

DSC02178

I have been a bit distracted from writing with the holidays and life, but I’m back…I didn’t leave the blogosphere planet…I’m here hanging out while taking it all in as I watch the diverse weather while enjoying the life outside my window:)

DSC05658

Pretty huh? I love this amazing world we live in…

DSC05672

How it can change in a minute…from foggy days to God’s glory in the sky above…

DSC05698

With jaw dropping sunsets full of majesty and brilliant colors…with clouds that morph into vivid displays for my camera.

DSC05727

Surprise surprise surprise…the very next morning…we had snow!

DSC05790

Of course…my horse Melody chooses to stand out in the snow and wind…never mind her stall is ready and waiting for her:) I think she wanted me to capture her picture in the blizzard of 2013!

DSC05883

This was New Years Day during magic time…at the end of daylight for that day. It was interesting as we had fog around us on New Years but we managed to stay in the sunshine and blue skies above without fog…and at the end of day it threatened to come in on us as you can see behind the hill but God shone a golden light from heaven on the top of the hill and made a heavenly golden crimson color…and the fog never came in that night:)

DSC05596

Hey look who dropped by to see what I was doing? It’s my shadow, Miss Ellie who is growing up…and she is ever so sweet:) She wanted to say Grrrowly-Roofy-Hi! And soon I will do a post on Ellie as she has grown lots but is still a puppy:)

Hang on we are switching gears into a new dimension…here we go! Remember you can click the pictures and they will double in size.

DSC05705

As the headlights on the lone car rounded the corner, they drove into a canyon…above them the skies looked ominous and it was then that they realized they had traveled into the wrong canyon…they were traveling into another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound, but also of mind; a journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of the imagination…they had crossed into the….Twilight Zone…

SONY DSC

This is Hot Rod Cowgirl signing off from the Secret Lab Zone…hmmmm:)
