Battle in the skies…grab your camera for a Kodak weather moment! We had a VERY bizarre storm a few nights ago…it was totally weird…and a bit freaky since I had just loaded the introduction of the flash flood we survived to my blog. Apparently we had an unusual wall cloud and a shelf cloud, which is odd for our area to have….and with the odd clouds came 80 mph gusts of wind, recorded by the weather service. And because we are so special, the storm went right over the top of our house…stopping to visit by parking on top of the house with thunder and lightening…it was an odd peculiar touch…no make that dang freaky and bizarro! We saw rotation in the weird clouds like we saw right before the flash food…it was one of those “Whoa…this better not be a deja vu moment!”
The first thing I noticed besides the lightning was the lighter colored white clouds to the right of the photo…if it was during the summer I would have thought it was white smoke…but it was not warm out just weird out!
Can you see the hawk flying as fast as he can to escape the oncoming storm clouds? The hawk looks like a small black spec but you can double-click the photo to enlarge it:)
Here is a better shot to show you the white clouds that were mixed into the dark clouds…
And then…”Jabba The Hutt” showed up…acting like he owned the sky, pushing all the white clouds away…instead giving us a cloud burst of heavy rain and winds battering us so much that I could not take anymore pictures outside due to the rain blowing and hitting me even standing under cover!
And then…The Real Boss of the sky showed up kicking “Jabba-Wabba” out of there…leaving us with a beautiful double rainbow with a definite “Wow” factor! I could feel God’s covering and His promise to look out for me during the life storms we all go through…no matter how weird, scary or difficult they are, He is with us.
Wishing you Totally Terrific Tantastic Thursday!

What a dramatic sky show. How unusual – makes you wonder how birds manage the wind currents, down drafts, and lightning. The final act was gorgeous.

Yes I wonder that too as I often see various different birds out here either settling down as they know the storm is coming so they get very quiet and sit in trees…or like the hawk who was probably caught somewhat off guard but I did watch and he flew out of the turbulence…all God’s creatures are miracles in and of themselves:) What struck me the most with the shot was the hawk is not that small but compared to the storm clouds he was teeny tiny!

Thank you…it was a weird storm as I was listening to my hubby talking and noticing the funny clouds coming and was trying to not be rude but I finally said “Hold it….I’ll be right back and I zipped out with my camera:)” He is used to it by now:) It was so interesting to watch the clouds sort of clash into each other and then the storm hit….and the rainbows were amazing! I am always in awe of the incredible world we live in:)

Thank you so very much for your kind words:) I shoot with a Sony a77 and for this shot it was set on scenes…and I beleive it was set on sunset….super fine and I will go look to see what the settings were for you:) I love the Sony camera….the a77 is my second one as I started with the a55….and now I am looking at the new a99…they are all great cameras:)

Hi again….I double checked my camera settings and for the rainbow photo…I will read you what the actual photo info says and from what my camera says. I have not had the a77 long enough yet to get all the correct terms down…still learning:) I did not have it set on Scenes instead I had it on the Auto+ which means the camera can take several shots if it needs to compose the shot and it can switch to HDR if needed as well. For the photo the info is as follows:
ISO 800 20mm OEV f/4 1/160 F2.8 ssm and it is set on extra fine…the image is L:24m
I hope this helps? I am one of those just pick it up and begin to shoot camera freaks….I learn all the terms and tech as I go…I love photography and I wish I had the classes available to take as I would love to learn more about how to do it and etc. I can tell it fits with my writing desire too….they seem to go hand in hand. I love my camera and learning new things with it…and enjoy finding the images and shots…sometimes I swear my eye is always looking for the shot everywhere I go!!!

I hope it helps….I am learning as I go and sometimes I wish I understood ISO and the tech stuff more….it is a passion for me that is for sure as I find myself always looking wherever I go at things or views or people for the camera shot….I carry it with me always and as my hubby jokes the camera sleeps with us:) I knew I always had a desire for photography but raising kids etc. my budget was more on basketball shoes and kid clothes etc. Now I can afford the camera and I love it! Be sure to let me see your rainbow picture when you get it:) Have a great day!
