Good Taupe Tuesday Evening to you!
The last month we have been remodeling and updating various things on the house, the shop and around the ranch.
All of a sudden the roof was 22 years old and not so great…the heat pump is the same age and needs a bit of help…the siding on the house needs to be changed out and while we do that we plan to insulate the walls and the roof to help out with the electric bill to be energy-efficient. The patio concrete has died and we are trying to figure out if we re-do the concrete or do some kind of natural stone look…decisions decisions and decisions.
Whatever I choose will be a last forever decision…so I better be absolutely sure:)
We did something that has never been done here before…not ever. Do you want to guess what it is?
We dug a well for our water…at 200′ deep we found good water at almost 300 gallons a minute….wow!
My hubby took the pictures saying “Honey this is our trip to Hawaii so I wanted to get pictures.” “What…wait minute…does that mean we are not going?”
My ancestors dug a 25′ well by hand a hundred years ago and lined it with bricks. I grew up on it and our kids were raised on it as it was the well we had. It is across the road from the house in a well house…when you shine a flashlight on it, you can see the water and the bricks. The water pressure we have now is about 25 gallons a minute…my showers have always been a trickle so it will be nice to have better pressure and water!
We will use the old well to water the pastures for the horses. The new well is next to the house, so we are moving the horse stalls across the road from the house where I can still keep an eye on them:)
Minnie says “What are you looking at?” “This house remodeling is very disruptive for napping!”
This evening we are to have thunderstorms…I have my camera ready to go if we get any interesting weather. Last night we had one of the most intense lightning storms I have seen here. Reminded me of the Wyoming storms we used to get when we lived there. The storm lasted for well over an hour…heavy winds and heavy rain came with it…along with rotating thunderstorms!
It is almost time for me to figure out dinner so I will head for the kitchen. Have a safe night tonight wherever you are!

As always, beautiful shots. Wow… dug by hand… we know how hard those people worked. Girl, you’ve got a whole lotta projects going on! Isn’t it great to be alive and have the strength (and money!) to do it??? Praise God.

Thank you:) I know can you imagine digging by hand….25′ and being the one in the hole too…..then lining it with bricks. Our ancestors gave us all parts of themselves and their hearts. I know….it is a huge whew and right now it is a mess….the old siding is off and now the house looks as it did before siding it…typical farm house with the old wood which I love…if it was not a huge cost I would pay for it to be stripped as it was painted white…there are some places that are bare but most of it is white. Would love to take it down to the old red fir wood used then…I will post more pictures of the before and after of the house. I thank God everyday for His blessings on our lives here and for my life as well…we are very blessed and each day is a new day that if we look around we will see Him everywhere:)

Animals are a gift….they have a life like we do and they also want to live…they deserve to be loved and to live:) I am just a country girl and kind of simple in how I see life. My kitty girl Minnie is almost 17 years old…next month she will celebrate a birthday:) And I just love her and yes at times she now requires more care or she needs me more and that is ok…she deserves to be cuddled and loved on….sometimes she even misses her litter box by accident…and to me that is just part of it…..I laugh and clean it up. I guess what I am saying is that I love my animals and seek to bless them back in how they have blessed me:)

A good water pressure is sooo needed lol When I worked at a horse farm we also had an old well to water the pastures for the horses & a newer one for the house. It s horrible if you want to have a shower or a bath and there isn’t enough water pressure for 😉
Great photos 🙂

Yeah the low pressure is very frustrating…if you go a head and take a shower and anyone else uses water it cuts it down even more. I have a great shower head on my shower and have not been able to enjoy it….but I am sure I will now:) Thank you as always for your encouragement and for stopping by the blog:)

Gorgeous photos, as usual! Speaking of books… I think you need a coffee table book. Great big prints of all these amazing photos all bound together. The black and white of the skyline is today’s favorite 🙂
Good luck with your household projects! We have A BUNCH of those in the works, too!

Your Minnie and Dianna’s Sundae could be sisters – similar markings, similar pretty faces, similar questions!! 🙂
Beautiful pictures … amazing that you still have the original well and that it’s working. Our ancestors sure were hearty weren’t they?

I know Sundae reminds me of Minnie too…they are of course beautifully marked and their attitudes keep both Dianna and I loving them and taking lots of pictures:)
I know the old well has always been good water so it was one of those things that you just keep forever. We filled another one that we have on the property from another homestead…we think…the house was not standing in my parents lifetime or mine…anyway there is a well there that was about 75′ deep..it was a bit scary being so deep etc. in the pasture that is just up the road. I worried about the kids with it. Yes I can not imagine hand digging the wells. One time I had to dig a trench across the road for a power line to a horse hot walker…about 25 years ago…hubby told me where to dig as he was gone that day…I had a post hole digger and dug a trench that was wide enough for me to stand in and too deep…when hubby came home he laughed at me for digging it too wide and deep. The next day I was hardly able to move:)
