Age is an issue of mind over matter…if you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter!
Age does not blow me away too much…even so I have begun a new decade of my life on planet earth.
I was 59 years of age last year in this photo.
And this year I turned 60…WHAT? Oh come on…no way I am still in my early 40’s!
While age has never bothered me…this particular year has me facing the fact that time is passing by…even though I still feel young, time is of the essence.
Each decade of my life has been an adventure of learning significant life lessons…and lessons are one of the very best parts of life…we can glean the wisdom and grow in a positive way or not grow… I choose grow!
Turning 60 has given me a clear view of life…which has helped me let go of old hopes and dreams, as I realize that they will never come true. Instead of grief, I have found a great peace and freedom as I let them go. I’m making good changes in my life while getting rid of old baggage and old things I do not need anymore…it has set me free emotionally and mentally while increasing my energy in a positive way.
My new decade is one of reinventing myself, while learning new things, as I explore life in an open and creative way.
WB and I are writing a new chapter together, while embarking on new adventures a head!
Being older gives you the ability to not sweat the small stuff…Life Is Good!
Older Gals and Older Guys Rule!
Now let me see, I forgot where I put my horse:)

You are so sweet and thank you:) Yes it was 60 this year…still sounds crazy to me and I do not feel like I am 60…but yeah. I think as we all age we face uncertain times and also the loss of dreams…but we can rise above that depressive spirit and go onward! It will be fun and we can exchange fun times that we discover:) Yeah I think we are struggle with that at this age….50 did not bother me but 60 has been different…not so much bugging me but realizing that time is passing and my body needs extra care to keep going…I had to come to terms with not riding my horses as much doing silly things like I used to…now the ground might hurt if I got bucked off…so yeah it is kind of a new normal…but I figure WB will like me staying safer and living longer with him:) I feel like I am on this weird journey but a good one too:) A fun one too:) Thank you much for your friendship and always your beautiful heart:)

Happy Birthday! Thank goodness we are only as old as we feel. I’ll be sharing the same birthday next month and it certainly does give you reason to think. Where does the time go? Love your positive and uplifting attitude. Let’s hear it for the sexy sixties!

Amen!!! I don’t know about time either…it just flies by anymore and I can not keep up. During the work week I wake up almost panicked to wonder what day it is…silly! Time seems fleeting anymore….and no clue where my days go sometimes:) Happy Birthday and don’t worry, we are still young…and right on…sexy sixty sounds perfect:) Huggies:)

Great post, HRCG! I didn’t used to be bothered by age much, either. Then, something about turning 40, even with me not realizing it, changed within me. I feel resolved over certain things, less drive to fulfill old goals I had in yesteryears, and a sense of contentment coming-although I’m not there yet-but getting there, with where my life has landed me. Acceptance, I suppose, at what is, even if I’d hoped for so much more. I think you are lucky to have someone to be sharing the next phase of your life, and I’m sure having a partner makes embracing it a little easier. For me, I think I realize that I may very well be moving on through the rest of my life alone, and after my kiddo is grown I will need to truly adjust. Thank goodness this is all in God’s time, and I have probably a good decade to face the music. XOXO-Kasey

Hi Kasey, thank you so much for your encouragement:) In God’s timing I do believe He will find the right person to be in your life…I will pray for that:) I think acceptance is one of the most important gifts we can give ourselves…being 60 has taught me that. WB and I have been married for 37 years and it will be 38 this next fall, I was 23 when we married…we are sure that God had it planned for us to meet as truly we are soul mates. You are a great Mom to your daughter and she will grow up but she will never leave you:) She will still need you in many ways…and God has you covered…and I know sometimes it is hard to believe He does….but He does…I am standing on my faith currently with a situation…hard to do too…but part of acceptance is trusting God:) It is always good to hear from you…sending hugs and prayers:) HRCG

Thanks, HRCG! I appreciate everything you said and also your prayers. I feel the same way, and work on acceptance all the time. God is faithful and God is good, and I love Him! Easter is coming, somewhat of a hard time for but also my favorite Christian holiday. I will be singing a lot during Holy week and doing the sunrise service for my church. I can’t wait, as this helps me focus on what is most important: my relationship with God first, then being the best mom I can be! Love n hugs and prayers for you, too. XOXO

It is amazing how much lighter you feel getting rid of stuff! I often wonder why I save stuff anyway, it may be the farm girl mentality of you never know…closets are being cleaned and plan to sell some furniture….and one horse. And time is fleeting really…I first realized that a few years ago…and I agree it was prob Hallmark:)

Thank you MJ:) I love the quote I based my post on…first saw it about 15 years ago and thought now that’s cool and I am going to apply it as I age:) I only feel around 35 to 40, in my heart, sometimes my body says no we are not going to finish cleaning the entire house today…yet I do have lots of energy still but I also gained wisdom…such as the house cleaning in one day…it can wait and maybe I will do each floor a day at a time:)

Sorry to be long in answering…no I did barrels and then figure eight races and the stake races during the pre-school stage, Dad started me early and then continued through grade school/high school…once I was away from it more, I found a new love with cutting horses which fit me more since we had cattle…love watching it as the horse is in a dance with the cow…now I pleasure ride when I can or trail ride which I love as the mountains are always familiar to me and bring back so many memories having lived each summer in them.

we would have been fast friends! fast – ha, though competitors during weekend events! barrels, poles, quadrangle, flag race, barrel pickup – wow, that was a life, and when i wasn’t on a horse , i was swimming or fishing or water skiing in a huckleberry find childhood.. i’ve often said that that childhood prepped me for life in latin america!
cutting horses – i’ve ridden them but never worked them, and it’s like watching a beautiful ballet when sitting on the fence or bleachers and watching you pros do what you do best. it’s a connection between horse and rider almost like a sixth sense/communication…
you look GREAT, and your immersion in the equestrian world surely contributes to keeping you young!

Wow, that is so cool! Yes we would have been friends and connected…you could have come visit me on the ranch and we would have moved cattle to new pastures! Yes I did some of the events you mentioned too! Each spring we would get tuned up at a local rodeo that was family oriented as everyone got to compete in their event…we would meet I think 6 weekends…it was a lot of fun! I loved the feel of the horse under me moving through the poles and barrels…I eventually rode Dad’s rope horse Gypsy for the games…she knew one speed, fast and hang on tight as she knew the pattern! She was incredible…and fun! The first time I watched a cutting horse move, I was in awe and wanted to learn how to do it and wanted a good horse to do it on…the sorrel mare I will mention in my next post was a natural. I bought her from a lady that I respected very much as she was good with training cutting horses and she would enter the Snaffle Bit Futurity, I was impressed with the horse and riders ability. She bought Lottie when she was 6 months and as soon as she wa old enough she began prepping her for the Snaffle Bit Futurity. I bought Lottie when she was barely three as her mind was not mature enough yet for the show…she knew how to cut, she knew her roll backs, sliding stops and yet could stop with grace on a dime…and she had the biggest eyes, she was beautiful. She was a triple bred Leo mare and some Three Bar in her blood. Smart, oh yeah…catty and quick, hang on…and then when she knew her work was done she kicked back until you asked her to work again. For some reason she did not like men..it was thought that a younger stable boy teased her before she was sold at 6 months and that he teased her with her food too. She bucked my hubby off three times but not me…she was funny. When she was in a pasture with some cows she would bunch them up and play cutting horse…and yes you are right as the connection is amazing, you both knew what the other was going to do and she always gave her heart to me and then some:)

” a triple bred Leo ” – wow. i’ve been out of that life for so long, but that phrase brought it all back, like stepping under a cool waterfall when about to collapse from the heat!
i bought my first quarter horse when i was about 11 with money i’d saved w/4H.. Sunup was ‘green broke,’ and could run like the wind. she became an extention of me, and i trained her for speed events, chasing deer, whatever – she kept me out of trouble.. i even trained for cross country w/her.. she kept my stride even and consistent.. years later in costa rica, i was running on the beach, and a guy from norway was running in the other direction. i was finishing and he was just starting.. when he finished, he came to where i was and was breathing hard.. (he’s a personal trainer..) he said, ‘i all but pulled a hamstring trying to put my feet in your footprints! i pondered that and gave my horse credit.. he was quiet for a long time and said, ‘i only knew one person who trained with a horse, and he became an olympic champion…’ (from russia)
perhaps i missed my calling. i ran for fun when i was young and didn’t compete!
but my horse was like yours – she usually found a way to scrape a man off her back to my delight!

Wow what a cool horse…that is the connection we can make with our horses…having that extention and relationship with our horses is the key. I just love thinking of Sunup running beside you…that is so cool:) Horse are so relational:) Several years ago I was taking lessons from a trainer who had me ride my horse without a bridle in her large round pen…I thought what? But when I did it, talk about freedom with your horse….it was awesome…we trotted and loped, turned and did pivots and backing up…as soon as I would begin to think of what i was going to ask her to do, she intuitively picked it up my thought and we would turn…it was one of the coolest times I had with my horse:) Hee-hee on scraping a man off her back…LOL!
