The Hot Rod Part Of Hot Rod Cowgirl!

The Hot Rod Part Of Hot Rod Cowgirl Is Still Rocking On!!!!!!

I know I know…as usual I have been running like a crazy country girl here…

Don’t give up on me, as yeah I’m here…me and Ellie have been reading all your blogs:)

I have had a huge writers cramp this last year since we lost our sweet Minnie…it has been tough guys…she was our sweet kitty girl and she loved this time of year! My heart misses her so much…and my writers stuckness comes and goes with many tears…

Do you remember last summer I posted about shooting three different videos out here at the ranch?

Each video showcases one of our customer vehicles, that my hubby “Wild Bill” restored and built.

The videos took blood, sweat and tears with a few cuss words…and now they are live on YouTube!

Each one is pretty cool…and yes the red 1955 T-Bird is mine!

Click on the link below…

Turn up the sound…enjoy!

The first video is of this incredible 1933 Ford Roadster…

The second video is this sweet black 1930 Ford Tudor….

And lastly, the video of the 1935 Dodge Pick Up, with the before video and the after video. I love this truck, it is incredible!

So now ya know…when you do not see me consistently…

It is due to life at the “Secret Lab”….

HRCG and Ellie over and out for now but never for long…

Calling Hot Rod Cowgirl…Come In Please…

Calling Hot Rod Cowgirl…Come In Please…Can You Copy Good Buddy? Where Are you?

I’m here…I’m here! Life has me sidetracked and time is stuck in warp drive…propelling me into some alternative universe…a universe that I have never seen before….a universe like no other…its been a month since I blah blah blogged you…Holy Cow!

I must be in “Another dimension…a dimension of sound…a dimension of sight…a dimension of mind.

A journey into a wondrous land of imagination called the Twilight Zone” to not be blah blah-ing you about something!!!

My hubby WB, had surgery mid-September that was not planned…it was another dimension called medical surgery which was over 5 hours long…a long time to wait for Ms. Worry Wart here! I hoped and prayed all would go well and it did:)

I’m still a bit tangled up from worry but WB is already making a full recovery and will be good as new:) Having our loved ones go through medical issues is one of the hardest and scariest parts of this life we all lead.

And summer flew by faster this year…I could not believe how fast time flew! The only way to show you our summer is to invite you to hop in and fasten your seat belts…you can hang on tight to the OS handle…and we’ll do a quick recap via pictures that I captured of the summer of 2014!

Getting ready for the cameras…three professional videos were filmed at HSL this summer of several vehicles that we built.

Lots of special beauties in this line up!

WB was giving me the stink-eye as I told him he missed a spot…on my car:)

And here comes Camera #1…

Are we good to go Nathan?

Stay tuned as the videos are currently in production with Chris and Corbin at CAPPS Broadcasting with the hope to have the first one done in the next few weeks! I’ll keep you posted!

And before we move on…Thank You Chris and Corbin for believing in us and taking the time to see for yourself what Holton Secret Lab is about! CAPPS Broadcasting ROCKS!

And then July blew in with hot hot hot temperatures! As I captured this shot, a flock of birds took off…they look like dots in the photo as it was taken a long distance away. I need to shop for a telephoto zoom lens as I often have many of our native birds show up in my photos…it’s always cool to see them take flight.

Two weather fronts moved into the NW from different abnormal directions just as we were getting into July…they collided, creating some crazy weather leading us into record-breaking heat in July and August, triple digit temperatures lasting for weeks. Not only did we have the heat, we had nightly lightning shows and clouds that were unusual…which was great for obsessive camera girl!

A few minutes after the first shot above, only from a different direction…you can see the layers of clouds and the two different fronts…it was all very odd to see the fronts, the massive clouds and the weather!

We had fire in the skies from wildfires all over the West, as summer went into hyper-drive with record-breaking heat and seriously dry conditions with low humidity, which is fire weather conditions. Having lived here forever, I have never felt heat like we had this summer. It was like a hot blow torch each time you stepped out the door.

Just as summer was heating up, good friends Kevin and Pat with their huge fifth wheel, came to help us with our patio…it was a large project to take on and was not easy to complete! The “Best” part was having old friends here to share the laughs while making new memories together…38 years of friendship is very cool! BTW Kev and Pat know how to do retirement right…they left here the end of August headed for parts unknown and a memorable adventure!

Weird weather continued with skies gone crazy, bringing many great photo ops…

Fire in the sky…this small cloud in the midst of the mega gray clouds was odd as the sundown colors hit it just right and was a fun capture!

With crazy clouds, weird weather and spectacular storms my summer was busy with my camera! I would head outside to relax for the evening…only to be muttering “dang” under my breath as I tried to ignore the odd clouds, lasting only seconds before I had my camera back in my hand again, shooting wild sky pictures overhead…it was an incredible summer!

Always with breathtaking beauty…and as I end this post…remember,

I’m riding hard for the Cure! Saddle up and ride with me declaring war on breast cancer! Lets ride and declare war on all cancers!

Grandma on Red 1958

Yip-Yip-Yee-Haw And Hallelujah!!!

Have a peaceful evening wherever you are! I am over and out for now…but not for this long!

Hot Rods Of This And That On HRCG!

Hot Rods of this and that on HRCG is another segment of photos taken the last few years and it may explain the Hot Rod Cowgirl name of my blog.

If you are a serious car guy you will love this post…you can double-click on my photos and they will enlarge:)

In this post I want to share some of the restored vehicles that my hubby has created for our customers.

I hope you enjoy seeing a few of these incredible restorations, custom builds and amazing rides.

Hang on and here we go…Zoom Zoom!

We attend many car shows during the year to display our workmanship and to showcase the vehicles. This is our display at the Portland Roadster Show…we often showcase some of the recent customer vehicles to show the quality of the restorations we do…and people love to walk through our 30′ car trailer as we have photos displayed inside of various cars we have restored and built. We run videos of the vehicles through out the restoration…some restorations have 1000 hours in them from start to finish.

Portland was the beginning of many large car shows to follow…

As well as summer shows that are held in smaller towns with a sense of community and country fun…often the shows attract well over 350 cars with the show held in the downtown area which is nice, we women can shop!

Roadster Show 3-1-06 028

The photo above is one of my favorites. It was taken at the Portland Roadster Show the year we took 10 of our customer vehicles that WB restored…every car you see was restored and rebuilt to perfection. We brought home 12 trophies that year!

The first year we attended the Portland Roadster Show, we took three of our restorations to display etc. I had been diagnosed with bc a few weeks before the show…WB said no we can not go…I told WB nope we are going to the show! This is the part of the business that is my part, I had approached the Roadster Show about coming…and it was an honor to be chosen to display our work and we were going!

Only the vehicles which show complete perfection are selected to attend…so in a way you have already won to a degree if you are chosen to display your cars. We had six customer restorations displayed at the 2010 Roadster Show…we won six classes and brought home six trophies!

WB is giving me “The Look” as  he does not like me taking pictures of him….ha! The cars right behind him were our display that first year…1931 Blue Ford Tudor…1948 Red Chev. Pick Up…1946 Ford Tudor with the flames. Guess what? All three vehicles won Best Of Class in their respective classes and that is out of 550 cars, it was the 50th Portland Roadster Show! We were so pumped!!!

I love this 1946 Ford Tudor, it’s a go fast and has all the comforts of today’s car, plus WB’s flames…and Wild Bill is famous for his signature flames!

Mr. Blue has won six times at the Roadster Show with us over the years…this 1931 Ford Tudor is incredibly cool!

Another one of my favorites and I would LOVE to drive it:)

TV interview day in the Secret Lab with Wild Bill! I love this…my entire married life to WB I have waited for this to happen! I love seeing WB get credit for the work he has done over many years….and I love seeing him talk…hee-hee…he is not a talker and was a nervous wreck!

My hubby is MacGyver to the car world as he has the vision to see a rusted pile of junk restored into a regal vehicle.

The first night of set up at a smaller show of 200 cars….we took the Ford Tudor to display and also some of our flame plates. Wild Bill does a lot of flame plates for the customers in their choice of colors so they can see the color and decide if it is the right one for their car.

I am planning to do a post on one vehicle with before photos and during photos…

This GTO had major rust and the quarter panels had to be changed as well as the floor of the entire vehicle.

And after photos so you can see the process…as it is amazing!

Hang on as we are going to switch gears grabbing more horsepower!

Whew this tire cleaning is hard work and I need a break…

Ahhhh…just what I needed:)

Have a great weekend! HRCG over and out for now…but never for long!

Yee-Haw! Blah Blah Days!

Yee-Haw! Blah blah days of gray have descended once again on us in Juniper Canyon.

Almost every winter we have a couple of weeks of blahsay gray skies with fog that drifts in and drifts out.

“Oh Mr. Sun where are you…Hello Blue Sky? Where have the two of you gone?” I bet they hooked up and went to Hawaii…I don’t blame them but “Hey…come back puhlease!”

And with dingy gray skies devoid of character or shadows, what do you take pictures of?

Maybe God made foggy gray days for us to know that we will go through gray times in life but blue skies are coming…hang on and trust…as the gray will disappear!

And then…the sun shines for a few hours…Halleluaia! I LOVE seeing blue instead of gray!

WB heard me whimpering about no blue skies, so he gave me something to do that I enjoy:)

WB restores customer vehicles and he just finished this 1949 Chevrolet one ton pick up…the customer’s father purchased the pick up in 1949. Note: It is very rare as it is a one ton!

A photo shoot was just what I needed, as on gray days, photos pop and photo shoots are awesome as the camera captures the shadows, the depth, the funky fun shots, with no glare, and no fade out of color etc.

We need rain in the Pacific Northwest…we need it bad. We are way below what is the normal crop year moisture…the mountains do not have their usual snow pack and next summer will be very dry…I’m praying for good rains, nice gentle rains and some occasional snow here with a good snow pack in the mountains!

Summer is coming sooner than we think with beautiful skies and flowers galore that are pretty in pink…hopefully with gentle spring rains and epic summer storms! Hang on tight as soon it will be a warm summer night full of country delight!

Life Is Good! In Fact It Rocks! 8 Years Strong!!!

How often do you capture a photo of a yellow striped kitty named Morris walking across the back of our “Cat” and he is right above Caterpillar? Perfecto! Morris is a very cool cat!!!

Have a warm comfy night wherever you are and a Totally Terrific Thursday!

A Day In The Life Of Hot Rod Cowgirl For Oregon Dayshoot 2013!

A day in the life of Hot Rod Cowgirl begins in the dark dawn of July 15th for the Oregon Dayshoot 2013! The Dayshoot first began 30 years ago in 1983 to depict life in Oregon on any given day of everyday life. It’s a way to record Oregon history and what our lives were like in 2013 compared to the first Oregon Dayshoot in 1983.

It’s 4:30 in the morning on July 15th and I am excited to be a part of Dayshoot 2013! I’m ready with my camera…a nice clean card, along with a spare one and extra batteries too. And its time to begin as I step out to capture the sunrise…it was well worth it but I wish the stars had shown up in the photo too!

Yard sprinklers were doing their thing…I lightened this photo up so you can see the drops of water! A fun time of day to be up and taking pictures of life in Juniper Canyon!

Here comes the sun…I do truly love this time of day anymore…used to not be crazy about it but then I got into photography and I love the sunrise and the sunset…the two enchanted times of light and capturing images with hues of color that knock your socks off!

Yard Bath or Showers! We have had the sprinklers only 1 year and I love them. It is so much easier to water the yard with a switch instead of dragging around hoses all over. WB said too he thinks all our gophers have left due to the water!!! Yeah!!!

Finally daybreak…I am the only one up and I need coffee soon…it is now 5:30 in the morning! And its going to be a beautiful day! I love it as it is so quiet and speaks deep to my heart of God’s beauty all around us if we will look and observe.

Annie was up and wanting her hay breakfast…”Morning Mom, dayshoot or is it dayhoot-cares…I’m hungry and yeah yeah about taking pictures…just gimme my hay and I will pose for you later ok.”

And here’s Pat and Jack putting in their two cents since Annie got to. “Well really Mom, you need to sit down here and pet us, rub and love us and feed us treats!” I miss Jack so much as he was beautiful inside and out!”

“No way Mom….what are you doing outside at this time of day….get in here and I need treats too and lots of pets and kitty loves!” “And who cares about this dayhottenany or whatever it is called!” “Humph!”

As the day slowly wore on, it was over a 100 degrees and too darn hot to be out very long. After lunch I figured I would go check out the shop…WB said to come down and grab some photos of the guys working for fun! So here I am in Wild Bill’s shop wondering if I can catch some sneaky action photos of the guys working on cool cars:) And I LOVE Corvette’s!

Here’s Bryan working away but I think he is hiding…Hey Bryan…quit hiding and smile!

Come on Clay, look up and smile at the camera…geez! Clay is working on a very cool 1935 Ford Pick Up…it is going to be very classy when it rolls out of the “Lab!”

“Ahhh HA! I caught you Wild Bill! Smile for me and what are you doing now? Hmmm, well I am having trouble getting the guys to smile like they are having fun with all these super cool cars to work on!!! At least you will smile at me if I try to capture you working on one of the cars right?”

Apparently not…and hmmmph…hey WB come on and look up!!!! He gets all obsessed over Corvettes too like I do! This is a 1976 Corvette…hey WB LOOK UP Dang It!

I know maybe Nathan will look up and smile….by the way this is a 1958 Metro…cute huh? Nathan likes to draw and he drew the smiley face on the Metro and at least it is smiling, and looking at the camera!

I know what they are saying….”Here she comes again, so look like we are discussing something very serious” “Ok Terry and WB come on and look at me you ding-dong guys!!!”

And one last picture of Bryan working on a 1949 Chev. Pick Up…

Guess I will head back outside to see what is going on….Hey heres Jagged, our 1928 Dodge Coupe! WB likes louvers can you tell?

The landscape view in bright light of day! This is the view of the sunrise photos I was taking at dawn…looks way different huh?

Typical scene outside the shop…lots of kooool custom cars in front of our old-fashioned service station!

And the day is winding down…horses doing the nuzzle after their dinner

Hey Dash what do you think? Hmmm…he not looking at my camera either….geesh!!!

Enjoy the summer as soon…it will be gone…and big fat WAH! I LOVE nice warm 80 degree days and the sunshine! Have a wonderful weekend and peaceful night wherever you are and a Simply Sunshiny Sunday! Smile and…click click click!

Warm Summer Nights Are Truly Heaven’s Delight…

Warm summer nights are truly heaven’s delight…

Basking in the soft glow of harvest colors reflected on the land, we remember the memories of old…tough years that taught us to dig deep…and the good years full of family times and grace. We remember…and we give thanks for our heritage and the traditions passed on to us that we hold close to our heart.

Wheat fields immersed in golden amber light, surround us with vivid hues of auburn red delight…that makes this cowgirl farm girl stop and stare…as I marvel at the beauty of the coming crop…that began with one small kernel of faith.

Magical times of twilight and early morning light…always brings summer delight to your heart and a smile to your face. And in the reverence of a quiet country night…wait? What was that???

With the earth-shaking…”Jagged”, rolled up the driveway with the beat of a heavy-duty cam and a healthy ba-boom-ba-boom sound.  “Jagged” is our 1928 Dodge Coupe that WB is building by hand, as he has to build the modifications and literally make the parts due to the limited availability of parts for a 1928 Coupe. Can you believe that he put a V-12 Jag motor in it with nitrous??? Stay tuned as there will be more on that in a later post. And this is a good picture of why I am called “Hot Rod Cowgirl?” Horses in the background and a Hot Rod in the foreground:)

Tuck Girl is in agreement, taking it all in…looking relaxed and happy…wondering where she left her ear plugs?

As the night air shifts, a cool canyon breeze whispers softly that soon, life in the canyon will pick up the tempo from a slow country waltz, to a do-si-do down home harvest swing!

Slowly the day ends, with the last ray of magical light setting softly behind the hill, while overhead the sky is a blaze with glory…and another golden day rolls into a warm summer night…truly heaven’s delight.

Sky Pilot Painting The Skies!

It’s that time of year again when I find my camera glued to my hand…

As the landscape outside my window is constantly changing with the various light and weather. Often WB and I may be in mid sentence when I say “Wait, hold on, I’ll be right back, I have to grab that shot with my camera”…thankfully he is very understanding:)

From the beginning of day…just as the sun is coming up…I zip out and click click click!

Until the end of day when I look for a night time shot.

With lots of life and HRCG shots in between:)

“Ah, hey you with the camera…over here Mom…let me give you my Queen of the House Look and Pose”. Miss Minnie Mouse…you are definitely the Queen of Our House!

I was driving to our small town for groceries, when I had to stop and pull over to grab this shot. I loved the pattern of the field against the foothills of the mountains and the clouds that day were perfect. When the clouds are huge and puffy with lots of shadows on the landscape, and my camera eye and imagination are one…then the creative part really kicks in!

One of Wild Bill’s latest restorations of a 1957 MGA for a customer…classic and beautiful! I enjoy doing the photo shoots of the finished restoration for the customer…often the vehicles we do for them are true desires of their hearts.

I heard a sweet knicker and a sigh, it’s my girl Ms. Melody, “Mom, who needs that kind of horsepower…we horses have true horsepower!” I know Melody, you are much faster and have lots of torque…and you can spin around faster and quicker than any car!

And with this incredible Juniper sunset that I was excited to capture last week…wherever you are, may you be blessed with a wonderful Sunday, day or night. HRCG over and out for now…but never for long…click click click:)
